The Higher
National Diploma 1 (HND 1) of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, has postponed the election which was to be
held Monday, January 13, 2017.
According to
an insider of the class, Gideon Tella said the development was a necessity
based on the tight programme that arises on Mondays.
“This was as
a result of the busy agenda that Mondays are always attached with so that there
will be full participation by class members during the election” He said.
However, the
new stipulated date for the election has been announced to be Wednesday,
January 15, 2017.
In
preparation for the election, names of candidates for different positions
ranging from governor, social director and sports director have been made
public.
It will be
recalled, that the election was a result of the resignation of the former class
governor, Samson Uwala, last week when the class complained about huge lapses
in his administration.
Paul Samuel
and Robert Richard are contesting for governorship. Ukem Alexander, Tella
Temitope and Ajewole Bolaji are battling for social director while Isikalu
Moses is standing for sports director without opposition.
In a phone
conversation between InsideNIJ and the Students Representation Council’s
chairman, Akinleye Segun, to know the efforts of the council towards the
election, he explained that the SRC is objective about the election and that
they will only be there to make sure the election is free and fair.
