Higher National Diploma 1 election has been won by Robert Richard
with 48 to 20 votes against his opponent, Samuel Paul for the class
governorship on Wednesday.
The election which was initially scheduled to hold on Monday
but later shifted to Tuesday became a necessity due to the former governor-Samson
Uwala’s resignation. Robert Richard and
Samuel Paul (Deputy to the former governor) saw themselves apt to engage for
the governorship election.
Prior to the election, there was a tough debate between the candidates in which each of them gave his manifestoes ranging from
the post of governor to social director.
The election which had the presence of the Students Representative
Council’s chairman, Akinleye Segun, the Public Relation Officer to the council,
Michael Ifeanyi and a lecturer, Mr. Akin Ojo, as they all came to observe the
election to ensure it was free and fair.
The election was a
fight between titans because of theStudents’ Handbook which states HND 2
governor automatically becomes the SRC’s
chairman.
The election employed a secret ballot system which votes were later counted openly with every member of the class participation.
In a conversation with SRC’s chairman on how the council automatically
lost two active members and receiving new ones; he said the present council still have
three months left which the newly elected representatives can use to map out
plans for themselves. And talking about the
former governor and former deputy of the class, he ascertained the council will
surely miss them as they were active in the council before Uwala’s resignation.
However, during the election, some reporters from Campus
Focus and InsideNIJ deemed it fit to be in the class for the event coverage but
they were bullied and sent out of the HND 1 class.
