NIJ Student Becomes Chief Imam

Nigerian Institute of Journalism student, Chief Imam Raji Adam Adebayo, was yesterday made the Chief Imam of Alkhaleeq Muslim Society of Nigeria.

Alkhaleeq Muslim Society of Nigeria was founded by Alhaji Chief Mukail Aremu Atanda Erinfolami who is also the National President.

Among the Very Important Guests are The Grand Chief Imam of Offa Land, Sheihk Muhydeen Usaeni Salman, His Royal Majesty Oba (Engr) Jimoh Adewale Olawale-Cole (Olojota of Oju- Ota Kingdom), His Royal Majesty Oba Waidi Ayinla Fashola Fagbemi 1 (Ologudu of Ogudu).

To celebrate with the new Chief Imam who is simply knowm as Mr. Raji in NIJ, A lecturer- Mr. Tolu Ojemuyiwa, National Diploma 1 A Governor- Opaniran Boluwatife and Oladeji Ayomide were there.

When stars gather around a megastar, illumination becomes the phenomenon, and the phenomenon tells the story of the luminary. Imam Adam Raji Adebayo is an Islamic icon of an intellectual gravitas, in fact, a scholar who has contributed notably to the growth of Islamic scholarship in Nigeria, particularly in the Lagos Islamic and Arabic literary landscapes. His commitment to Islamic scholarship has enhanced the spiritual life of his generation and has positively impacted on his students and younger colleagues. He stands out as an exemplary intellectual who occupies the prestigious gulf between the old and the younger generation of scholars. This marks him as a golden viaduct between these categories of people.

Imam Adam Raji Adebayo is held in high regard as an illustrious cleric, Islamic leader, and popular mentor. He is well-known for his dedication to and passion for Islamic affairs. A public servant of great vision and commitment, Adam Raji has contributed tremendously to the development of Arabic and Islam in this part of the world. Driven by the belief that his students and juniors should eventually surpass him in both skill and knowledge, he has nurtured an entire generation of Arabo-Islamic Studies who are highly respected in their field. Adam Raji is a champion of his followers’ welfare. His mantra: that a people’s interest should be the first consideration in humanitarian decision making.

He provided the strong, decisive and yet compassionate leadership that successfully led the mosque and the cluster through the darkness and challenges of life. He stepped down as the head of Omole Muslim Community Mosque in 2015, having helped lay a strong foundation, and facilitating the development of outstanding Muslim Community. His services to Omole Estate community will forever remain fresh and astonishing chapter in the history of Omole Muslim Community.

Imam Adam Raji was born in the early seventies into a family which was deeply interested in learning and spirituality, a family which includes several men-of-letters. His home was the meeting place of intelligentsia. His grand father Shaykh sheikh Raji Aliyu was a renowned scholar, the head of eminent Islamic clerics of Osogbo that assigned for the selection of those who would be the Chief Imam of Osogbo Land and his cabinet. Imam Raji Adam Adebayo is one of the children of the present Head of the Qodriyah Movement of Nigeria, Osun State chapter, sheikh Muh. Mos-hood Muh. Raji and the late ALHA. Hamdalat Adepeju Raji of blessed memory.

He attended Christ African primary school, and attended Christ African grammar school both in Osogbo. He started Arabic and Islamic Knowledge from his father who took very good care of him before he took him to Sheikh Muhammad Sodiq Afolayan Alalobo, the present Chief IMAM of Omuaran where he completed his Quranic reading and some elementary studies of Islamic education. In his childhood, he saw models of literary composition from his father, i.e. he received within the domain of his family artistic care, ideal guidance and proper Islamic orientation. He later proceeded to Arabic and Islamic training Centre (Morkaz) Agege, where he spent 7 years.

He then Moved high school ,to study Islamic Study/PES. He is currently studying at Nigerian institute of journalism(NIJ) in Ogba Lagos state..

Adam Raji Adebayo is an accomplished Arabic Arabic and Islamic intellectual. This is a rare feat which he attained not with a sudden flight but by dint of willpower and hard work. His services to humanity spread between the Minbar and the floor. As an unassuming Islamic icon, Imam Raji Adebayo has functioned in various capacities in service to Islam and humanity. He had been the head of Omole Muslim Community Central Mosque (phase 1), between 2002 and 2014 for Jumat services, Tafsr of Qur’an, and Islamic jurisprudence. On the first of June 2015, after six months probation, He was appointed the Chief Imam and the head of Islamic affairs of Al-khaleeq Muslim Society of Nigeria, Ojota Head quarters.

Imam Adam Raji is an accomplished gentleman of integrity. He is a pulpit orator, a treasured of self-discipline, a pictogram of excellence, a confluence of intellectual and spiritual merit. His cerebral persona and pedagogical attributes have help to build a fertile tide of intellectuals in Nigerian Islamic chateau. He has transmittable determination and dedication to the Islam. His khutbah and lectures are pulsating pulses of the human heart in all its complexity. There is therefore no doubt that Adam Raji Adebayo has contributed tremendously to the development of Islam. He represents a historical force of fashionable Islamic erudition and Arabic originality in Nigerian intellectual history.

A situation in which Muslims and members of Al-Khaleeq Society of Nigeria declare their support to give immense and high Islamic honour to one of their own is a clear signal of intellectual solidarity, Islamic literary and academic honour. On the strength of this rich and engaging contributions to Islam  enterprise, there is no doubt that Adam Raji with be of immense value not only to Islamic community but also Nigerian as a whole.

The life story of Imam Raji will be incomplete without dedicating a substantial space to his people in Omole. I register my appreciation to ALH Miftau babajide Eko, Alh &ALHA Abdol’s family and others who have been giving me their support till date.  Sheikh Imam Abdul Mojeed Ayinla (Nawairudeen society of Nigeria, Lagos) will forever be remembered.
